Privacy

This site collects nothing about you. It has no account, no analytics, no advertising trackers and no third-party scripts. We mean to keep it that way.

Religious practice is sensitive data

What you read here can say something about your faith: a prayer, a fast, a festival, a temple. Many privacy laws treat religious belief as sensitive data, and so do we. That is why this site keeps no record of which pages you read, and why it uses no analytics tools and no advertising trackers. Nothing you do here is sold, shared or used to build a profile of you.

What stays in your browser

What we do not do

Server logs

Our hosting provider keeps ordinary technical logs (address, time, page) for a short time to run and protect the service. We do not use them to follow what a person reads.

Calendar feeds

If you add one of our calendar feeds to Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or another app, that app fetches a file from this site about once a day. Depending on the app, the request comes from your device or from the app maker’s servers. The file is the same for everyone who picks the same city and rule. We set no cookie, and we learn no name or account. Our hosting provider’s ordinary logs record the request, like any other. The feed address names a city and a rule, so the company behind your calendar app can see which feed you chose; its own privacy policy applies to that.

Ask the texts

Ask the texts finds the verses that match your question. It runs in your browser. Today it shows verses only, and no AI writes an answer.

Before written AI answers are switched on, we will add a section on them to this page. It will say what happens to your question then: what the page sends to our server, what our server sends to the AI company, and how long each one keeps it. Until that section is here, the written answers stay off.

Problem reports

If you use the report form, it sends the page address, the kind of problem and your words to our own server. We store no name, account, IP address or device with the report. We delete your words 24 months after we close the report, or 3 years after you sent it if it is never closed. The page address, the kind of problem and any fix stay. To stop floods of reports, a one-way code made from your connection’s address (not the address itself) is counted for a minute and deleted within a day. If you email us instead, the email stays in our corrections mailbox only while we work on the fix.

Temple pages

Temple pages are built from public records and from each temple’s own website. They hold no names or contact details of people. If you represent a temple and want its page corrected or removed, tell us. We act within 7 days.

Your account, and getting or deleting your data

This website has no account. The apps have an optional one: it exists only if you turn on sync, and sync copies only what you agree to, item by item. You can get a copy of your data, or delete it, at any time. Your account and your data has both:

How long the server keeps it: a consent to sync lasts 12 months, and the app asks you to renew it. If you do not, sync stops, and 30 days later we delete the copy on our server. An account that is not used for 24 months (no sign-in and no sync) is deleted with everything in it. We also keep a log of what was done to each account and when (for example “consent given” or “account deleted”), with no content. The account is shown only by a one-way code, not by its id. Each line stays for one year, also after the account is deleted, and is then deleted, because India’s data protection rules (rule 8(3)) ask for it.

If this changes

Before we add analytics, accounts or location features, we will update this page and say what is collected, why, and how to delete it. Religious practice stays sensitive: any such feature will ask for your clear consent first. Apps for phones will have their own privacy notice.
